Common Admission Test (CAT) is an entrance exam conducted in computer based format for providing admissions into post graduate management courses into IIMs and other top B-schools in the country. CAT is conducted annually by one of the IIMs i.e., IIM Lucknow www.iiml.ac.in Like every year this year also, IIM is all prepped to issue notification for CAT exam. The notification will be out soon and candidates who are interested to join post graduation courses in IIMs can apply on or before the last date without any delay. The notification for CAT 2017 is expected to be out on July 30th. Candidates are advised to get ready to download the notification which will be available for download in the official website of IIM.
The approximate exam dates are yet to be out. Candidates need to wait for a little while to know the exact dates of the CAT exam 2017. The CAT exam is expected to be held in the first week of December this year. Candidates who take the CAT exam and qualify in it will be given admissions into IITs, FMS and more than 100 other management institutes across the country other than IIMs. Every year, the numbers of candidates applying for CAT have been increasing significantly. Previous year around 2.32 lakh candidates appeared for the CAT exam and this year it is expected that the number will go beyond 2.50 lakhs. The applications are said to be accepted starting from first week of August. So, candidates need to keep on visiting the official website of the exam conducting body to know the updates. The official website where the application forms, notification and other important details regarding CAT will be available is iimcat.ac.in. The notification will be available for download in the official website only. Candidates can download it and go through it thoroughly to know the requirements to apply for CAT. Candidates need to check the important dates to apply for CAT 2017. The dates are very important as the applications won’t be entertained by the authority after the last date.

CAT Eligibility Criteria 2017
Candidates who are aspiring to go for management studies in IIMs and other business schools across the country must fulfill the eligibility criteria as mentioned in the notification released by CAT conducting authority. Candidates who don’t have the criteria should not apply to appear for the exam and though applied, the applications shall be rejected by the authority. So, candidates need to first check with the eligibility criteria to apply for the CAT entrance exam. Only citizens of India can apply for CAT 2017.
Candidates applying for CAT 2017 should know the eligibility criteria. Below is the criteria for you.
- Applicants of CAT exam must have graduation degree from any recognized university in any discipline.
- Candidates applying under the general category must have a minimum of 50% marks or CGPA in the graduation or its equivalent exam.
- Candidates applying under the reserved category must have minimum score of 45% marks or CGPA in the graduation or equivalent exam.
- Candidates who are pursing MBA 2nd year can also apply for CAT 2017.
There is no age limit for the candidates to apply for CAT exam.
CAT Exam Pattern 2017
Candidates should start their preparation for CAT exam as soon as possible. There will be heavy competition for the exam as aspirants from all across the country will take part in it. Candidates must and should download the syllabus and exam pattern as earlier as possible to start the preparation for the exam. The exam pattern for CAT is covered briefly in this article. CAT exam is conducted for three hours duration. It is conducted in two sessions i.e., morning and afternoon. The exam is namely divided into three sessions – Quantitative Ability (QA), Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VRC), and Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DI & LR).
The questions are asked in Multiple Choice format. Few questions will also be asked in Non-Multiple Choice format. The exam conducting body of CAT every year makes some minor changes to the exam pattern. This year also, there could be the possibility of some minor changes in the exam pattern. The paper contains 100 questions overall with 75 multiple choice questions and 25 non-multiple choice questions.

Candidates also need to make sure to download the CAT syllabus from the official website. The exact syllabus will never be released by the authority. Candidates need to download the CAT syllabus in PDF format and start their preparation. The sections covered include Quantitative ability, Data interpretation and Logical reasoning, and Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension.
